Resilience
Butterfly Art Collective creates sculptural artworks that invite agency and fund real-world action. Our practice begins with the belief that art can do more than describe an issue—it can participate in shaping outcomes. These large scale initiatives are what we call "Campaigns"
Resilience, our inaugural campaign, centers on 25 pairs of sculptural butterflies made in soft resin with wingspans up to five feet. Each pair honors a community forever changed by one of the 25 deadliest mass shootings in the United States.
From each pair, one butterfly is permanently installed in the affected community. Its counterpart enters circulation through exhibitions and art collections, with 100% of proceeds from its initial sale supporting organizations working to prevent gun violence at various levels.
OUR PARTNERS
Giffords
We work with Giffords to support efforts around school safety and community-based violence intervention. Founded by Gabrielle Giffords after surviving an assassination attempt, the organization advances policy at the local, state, and federal level. Their work brings together gun owners, veterans, and community leaders to reduce violence while respecting constitutional rights.
Sandy Hook Promise
Resilience extends into classrooms through a partnership with Sandy Hook Promise. Their programs give students practical tools—how to recognize warning signs, how to respond, how to take responsibility for one another. The focus is simple: awareness, agency, and early action.
Collective Philanthropy
Our approach gives people access to the practice of philanthropy across a range of means. Rather than relying on a small number of large donors, our model brings together many people—each contributing at different levels toward a unified cause. Lasting change is rarely the work of one.
COLLECT WITH PURPOSE
Each artwork purchased from the Resilience campaign directly supports our partner organizations. By collecting these pieces, supporters pool their contributions into a shared effort, amplifying impact while taking home a tangible object that carries both beauty and purpose—a reminder of having made a meaningful contribution.
Collector’s Edition 1
Each butterfly in the Resilience campaign represents a story of transformation, remembrance, and hope. The Littleton, CO shooting occurred on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School, where two students opened fire on classmates and teachers. This atrocity, one of the most infamous school shootings in U.S. history, forever changed the national dialogue around school safety, gun control, and the psychological factors behind such attacks.
This handcrafted miniature honors the Columbine community with the same care and symbolism as its larger counterpart. The butterfly seeks to reclaim and restore the original meaning of the word “Columbine,” which has become synonymous with school shootings. Its wings portray a peaceful grassy field filled with delicate columbine flowers — symbols of natural beauty, growth, and life, and a reminder of what the name once represented. Each piece serves as a quiet tribute to lives lost and a reminder of what we continue to hope for.
This is Collector’s Edition 1 in a series of limited miniatures created by the Butterfly Art Collective. Within this edition are 12 individually crafted pieces, each one-of-a-kind in shape and detail. While united by a common design inspiration, no two are exactly alike—ensuring that every collector receives a singular work from this debut release. Each piece includes a numbered and stamped certificate of authenticity from the Butterfly Art Collective.

Artist Proof
Each butterfly in the Resilience campaign represents a story of transformation, remembrance, and hope. The Uvalde, TX shooting occurred on May 24, 2022, at Robb Elementary School, where a gunman opened fire, killing 21 people, including 19 children and 2 teachers. The atrocity devastated this predominantly Hispanic community near the U.S.–Mexico border and became one of the deadliest school shootings in U.S. history.
This handcrafted miniature honors the Uvalde community with the same care and symbolism as its larger counterpart. Inspired by the memorial mosaic wall created to remember the victims, the butterfly features a mosaic tile pattern — each piece representing the children, teachers, and community members forever linked by this atrocity. Carefully arranged, the tiles reflect how the community, though shattered, has come together in solidarity and strength. Each piece serves as a quiet tribute to lives lost and a reminder of what we continue to hope for.
This small batch of artist proofs was handcrafted in our studio as part of the process of refining and perfecting the full-scale butterfly sculptures. Each piece captures the spirit of the final design while offering a rare glimpse into the artistry, experimentation, and care behind our work. A testament to beauty born from resilience, no two are exactly alike.
