Each butterfly in the Resilience campaign represents a story of transformation, remembrance, and hope. The Thousand Oaks, CA shooting occurred on November 7, 2018, at the Borderline Bar & Grill during a college night event, where a gunman opened fire on young patrons, many of them students. Just one day later, the Woolsey Fire swept through the region, burning nearly 100,000 acres and compounding the community’s grief with another devastating blow.
This photographic print features the Binghamton butterfly. The butterfly captures the diversity and aspirations of immigrants through the repeated word “Dream” in over 60 different languages. The Statue of Liberty, long a symbol of hope for immigrants, appears alongside embedded passports as reminders of the U.S. ideals of freedom and opportunity. Shoelaces woven into the wings pay homage to Endicott Johnson, a shoe manufacturer that became the region’s largest employer by embracing cultural diversity and helping shape the area as the “Valley of Opportunity.” Each piece serves as a quiet tribute to lives lost and a reminder of what we continue to hope for. Captured in fine detail, this photographic print presents the butterfly artwork itself — a visual record of a piece created to honor lives lost and carry forward its message of remembrance and hope.
100% of proceeds support our nonprofit partners driving healing and systemic change.
